It's been two years since Derek Wellings took an unceremonious retirement from Extreme Wrestling Corporation. After three years of loyalty, he was discarded like refuse. The former world champion, and in all likeliness co-owner, Jaden "Xplode" Hunter cried foul and President Mac released him immediately following the final main event Derek would be in. Since then, Derek's been reclusive. He's remained "on the down low." Those who knew him rarely, if ever, heard from him. Now, his thirteen year old daughter grit her teeth and ventured into the basement.
The smell of stale whiskey, food and lack of showering hit Wendy's nose hard. She gagged and almost hurled before she could put a cloth over her face. The lights turn bright and blasted Derek hard, but he remained still playing on his Atari 2600. E.T. is the game he's currently playing which, once more, made Wendy gag in disgust.
Wendy Sato
Derek, you've been drinking down here and playing Atari 2600 for almost two years.
Derek Wellings
Your point?
Wendy Sato
David and Franklin are worried about you. They thought that because you adopted me that you're molesting me.
Derek Wellings
Why does they always think I'm attracted to children?
Wendy shrugged her shoulders, unaware of any theory. Annoyed at Derek and his unwillingness to stop playing E.T., Wendy simply unplugged the multi outlet, which caused Derek's eyes to bug out and scream bloody murder as the game ended. Tears rolled own his cheeks when he hugged his old box set tv.
Derek Wellings
What did my game do to you?
Wendy Sato
Killed the video game market in 1983. Is widely considered the worst game of all time.
Derek Wellings
But that was decades before you were even sperm!
Wendy Sato
What you done since you were fired or quit EWC?
Derek Wellings
Sat naked in a bean bag chair, eating cheetos.
Wendy Sato
Anything else?
Derek Wellings
Used my Atari 2600 to play E.T.
Wendy Sato
Yeah and?
Derek Wellings
Laughed at people trying to use their ass as storage spaces such as One Man One Jar?
Wendy Sato
What are you talking about
Derek Wellings
Nothing, don't worry about it.
The Airborne Ranger released his tv, stood up and dusted old Cheeto dust off of him, the looked at his daughter. Her dyed blue hair filled reminded him of the Blue Lantern Corp of hope, something Derek once believed in. In over two years, Derek spent his days doing absolutely nothing outside drain his bank account on Cheetos, Canadian Club Whiskey, Jack Daniels Whiskey, compulsive gambling, airfare for Simon Pegg and Colin Baker whom are likely his only friends.
However a good contact alerted him to the upstart promotion New Blood Wrestling and his resume already sent in. Most likely, Wendy heard about it and did the work for him knowing it's been over ten years since he was last in the army, but being in the civilian world, he's deprogrammed and at times is very lackadaisical. Having lived with Derek since he found her at 11, Wendy knew when to give up trying to reason with him.
Wendy Sato
All right, I won't. But you need to get in shape. You have a match in a few days, Derek.
Derek Wellings
I know, I know, I'm in good enough shape.
Derek flexed his muscles and stretched like Shawn Michaels. However, unlike Shaw, Derek lost his balance and fell through a table which in turn made Wendy laugh. With haste, Derek stood up and tall to his 13 year old daughter. Grabbed a beam over head and started to do pull ups.
Derek Wellings
See? I'm in shape.
Wendy Sato
With the grace of an elephant. How do you fall over doing that? You even broke the table!
Derek Welling
I buy furniture from Target, that shit won't last. You know, like the majority of my opponents.
Wendy Sato
Are you sure about that? Your last year wrestling hasn't been terribly good to you.
Derek Wellings
Shut up or your grounded!
Wendy Sato
All right, fairy enough, Derek-Sama.
Derek Wellings
Stop calling me that.
Wendy Sato
Okay, Derek-Sama.
Derek Wellings
Ugh, you can be just as annoying as my wife.
Wendy Sato
You know... you never told me about her.
Derek Wellings
She wanted a divorce and at a reconciliation dinner, she was gunned down. We had twins who don't even call me on my birthday. Is that enough for you?
Wendy Sato
Wow... what did you do to them?
Derek Wellings
Army, that's what. They likely never forgave me for making them move so many times. To be truthful, I don't blame them. They're out and on their own. They don't need me and I don't need them.
Wendy Sato
Is that what being raised Amish taught you?
Derek Wellings
Well, I'm not Amish anymore, am I? People change and I've changed, they didn't show up to their mother's funeral. They choose the paths they choose and I don't know or care to know their reasons. Now I choose my path, my path is to return to wrestling, even if it's for a short stint..Wrestling is in my blood, not fakin' the funk.
Wendy Sato
What's that mean?
Derek Wellings
Fighting is in my blood, not peace.
Wendy Sato
You're going to ignore that, aren't you?
Derek Wellings
I'll do as I must, ignore your questions and deliberately ignore doctors orders... again.
Wendy Sato
That sounds EXTREMELY dangerous. You have a ladder match at Jubeilation, do you remember what happened at your last ladder match?
While the Airborne Ranger rubbed his neck, Wendy pulled out her cellphone and pulled a video up on YouTube. A video from the August 11th, 2015th is of Derek in a ladder match with EWC Legend Shadow Man. The Airborne Ranger climbed up a ladder, clearly damaged from match and attempted to jump out of the ring onto Shadow Man is prone across the barricade outside Just as Derek reached the top, the ladder broke and gave away.
He crashed down and landed neck and skull first on the barricade and ground. With him laid out, Shadow Man won the match but Derek complained about not feeling anything neck down as the fight doctor, the promoter himself and fight doctor checked on him. The video ended as Wendy powered down her phone, then looked at Derek who merely shrugged it off.
Wendy Sato
Do you realize how dangerous your ladder match is? You might have won the first one and got the NCW World Heavyweight Championship but you almost lost your career last time. What can you say about a massive loss like that?
It took Derek a few minutes to think. But he found the answer he looked for. With a calm demeanor, he found the words he searched for. He knew how to approach this topic and get his point across to his thirteen year old daughter.
Derek Welling
I have my reasons for losing. But even in defeat, I still look DAMN good. Entering at number one in the yearly Rumble in the Bronx's 30 Man Rumble match and lasting to number three is a HELL of a feat for a man who's forty eight years old. Taking talent like Griffin Hawkins, a world renowned talent to the absolute edge before falling isn't lucky, it's fighting spirit. It's raw talent and it's my fighting prowess at it's best!
My body may be fifty but my fighting spirit is still young. Every where I go, I fight much younger talent, everywhere it's almost guaranteed I win a championship, When I found out my free agent contract had been picked up by New Blood Wrestling, I was skeptical because I'm not exactly new. But then again, I'm new to the NBW audience... so that counts right?
Derek a gave shrug and sheepish look to Wendy who also shrugged.
Derek Wellings
Master Jubei has given me the opportunity to be the inaugural NBW Intercontinental Champion at Jubelation 2018. So he's thrown me to Killa Kai, whom I'll get to later. But for no, I want to focus on ME. Jubelation is a celebration of Master Jubei's birth, well it'll be a celebration of new life for me too. Eleven years in wrestling, this is the third time I can be a relaunch or first even champion. I first won the All-Star Wrestling Heavyweight Championship at their first pay-per view, then I won the EWC Hardcore Championship at Stranglemania X, and now I get it a third time.
Will I win this one for sure? No, I'm not overly confident because if I'm wrong, I look like an asshole. However I am confident I will leave the match a winner. I've always doubted myself in my past because of my age, and with my previous neck injury, I have more doubt in my mind. But in all honesty, I'm pretty confident I can win this match.
At that moment, Derek's demeanor changed. A smirk popped up on his face, he looked at Wendy's surprise. Her eyes wide opened as Derek leaned over her, with a creepy smile. Sweat ran down the back of her head.
Wendy Sato
You okay, Derek-Sama?
Derek Wellings
I'm fine, I just realized something. This is something TRULY NEW.
She sighed loudly, Wendy's head slunk downwards.
Wendy Sato
I said that...
Derek Wellings
Everything in the past doesn't matter. My heavyweight championship wins, my bronze medals in rumbles, any streaks I've earned, the legacy of me being Mr. Main Event. We're starting new in NBW, people might come in strong from other places. But if history has taught us, that doesn't mean anything. Look at Vader in WWF, he was treated like trash or Bryan Danielson in the same place, they had to own his name by changing it.
Killa Kai could be coming on white hot from his other place and me coming in stone cold. It doesn't mean shit here, we're starting fresh here. We get one chance to show off what we can do. We can set a standard for all future NBW Intercontinental Champions, Kid Dekay and Far Cry couldn't cut it or return. Now we set a bar they failed to place, we get to make sure all future champions have a hard time meeting our level.
Don't mistake me being humble as a weakness. I might be the older dog in the yard, but I'm also the more dangerous one having survived literal wars during my time in service and my wars in the ring. You might not have heard about what me and Shadow Man or Griffin Hawkins or Johnny BoneCrusher did to each other, but I know you'll find out in due time. I might not have win every fight, but the fact is I won all my first encounters with ring legends and I've always left a mark.
I will leave a mark in NBW and I will leave a mark on you. Now you need to learn something as the younger man. You need to learn that One Man's Hate Leads To Another Man's Fate!
