The camera opens to a brown bottle that just had its cap popped. As the image moves away from the camera the branding becomes clear. "Dad's Old Fashioned Root Beer". The man holding the bottle by the neck is none other than Bryce Albright's dad/manager/trainer.
"Good job, son" he pridefully says. "I'm proud of you for how you handled your opponent, Bolt, last week. You finally are showing the aggressive side of you that made you successful. You are finally showing the world the Bryce Albright that not only says he is the Lifeblood of New Blood, but the one who proves he is the Lifeblood of New Blood. Take the Tay-see-ah girl, what has she done since defeating you?" Wilfred, still not facing the camera and still blocking most of the view, chuckles loudly. "She's been-mmm..." he trails off. Seeming to have an epiphany he raises a finger to the air. "That's right, she's been radio silent. And last time I checked, silence didn't get a gold record. Ah, but that is okay, son, because once again it has been you that has been here week in and week out. It has been you that has not been shy in letting his voice be heard. It is you that says more in one word than ungrateful greenhorns like Tay-see-ah say in a ten minute timeframe." Wilfred raises his bottle of Dad's Old Fashioned Root Beer to the sky. "And all of it because of me. Congratulations are in order, son."
Bryce's voice can be heard coming around a wall. "Thanks dad, I'll make you proud this week against my opponent, Tsukiko Kitsune."
"Ah yes, what was it she called herself, again?"
From around a wall, Bryce responds. "the Zenko Kitsune"
Wilfred, who has yet to face the camera, shifts his posture to suggest confusion. "Zen...ko Kitsune? What does that mean?"
"I don't know, Google it!" Bryce's voice betrays his annoyance.
Wilfred pulls his phone out of his pocket and puts his root beer down on a near by table. He types away at his phone letting out audible hums and grunts. "Oh, ah...hmm..." Wilfred mumbles. "Uh, according to Google Translate it means Fertless Fox."
A five second pause leaves tension in the air. Swift footsteps on a hardwood floor come from behind a wall. "Excuse me?" An exasperated Bryce asks. His voice more clear than before, though his appearance is blocked by Wilfred Albright. "Is Fertless even a word?"
A confused Wilfred scrambles to find any sort of response to the astonishing translation error. "Um.. uh, wait! I think I saw something before when I was researching this Kitsune, thing. Uh wait..." Wilfred again begins typing on his phone before finding his answer. "According to Wikipedia, the phrase zenko kitsune refers to a classification of kitsune, meaning good fox."
"Wait a minute, wait a minute. Good fox?"
"Looks like it."
"Dad, what is a kitsune?"
"It's the Japanese word for fox. Why do you ask?"
As Bryce steps out from behind a wall Wilfred turns toward the camera showing off both his and Bryce's attire. Both have on camouflage shirts and pants on, though Wilfred's is covered with a red cardigan. Bryce looks obviously annoyed. "I thought you said we were going to scout out my opponent this week." Wilfred remains stoic despite his son walking toward him aggressively. "I thought it was a little weird you had me dress up in camo. Exactly what do you have planned?"
Wilfred allows a smile to crawl across his face. "Don't worry son. You'll see what I have planned."
With that the camera fades to black.
After an ad break the camera opens back up. The setting has shifted to a forested area with dense trees blocking out a majority of the sunlight. Other than the trees and few shrubs on the ground the forest appears empty.
"We know who you are Tsukiko Kitsune." Wilfred's voice rings out from the forest. The camera shifts and searches for the origin of the voice. It rests once again at its original spot. There we see our protagonists, Wilfred and Bryce Albright. Their faces are painted with greens and browns to match their camouflage. "We know your true identity." Wilfred has an evil smile on his face. "And before we are done here we will tell the whole world who you really are. First, Bryce I know you have something to say."
"You are correct dad. Tsukiko, before you go on worrying, try to relax. From what I hear too much stress shortens your lifespan." Bryce winks. "First off, I'd like to formally welcome you to New Blood Wrestling. The past few weeks I have been a little busy, and haven't had the chance to. Secondly, I'd like to wish you good luck. You appear to be a tough competitor; our match should be a fun one. Thirdly, I'd like to assure you in this realm of professional wrestling you will be hard-pressed to find a more impressive warrior than I. So win, lose or draw I'd like you to know you have my respect. Now to the meat and potatoes of what I wanted to say. Last week, you said there was an obvious mismatch between you and your opponent. You proved it when you defeated her decisively. Now the powers that be put your across the ring from me. I'd like to think that there are few that can rival me and a standard wrestling match. There appears to be few that can rival you in a standard wrestling match. You put the two of us together and what you have is the Unstoppable Force against the Unmovable Object; or at least a bout of those proportions." Bryce looks over at his father. "But going back to what my father was saying; we know who you are. We know your identity. We know that Tsukiko Kitsune is just a pseudonym. We know your real identity is..." Bryce pauses for dramatic effect. "The Good Fox!"
"shhhh," Wilfred whispers. "We are in search of good foxes, or as the Japanese say, zenko kitsune." They take a few steps forward, doing their best to be sneaky. "In North America, the fox is wily and sneaky. They are quite often a metaphor for thieves. I initially found it strange that one would model oneself on a thieving animal. The more research I did on our little Arctic Fox, the more I understood. The zenko kitsune, or good fox, represented wisdom and prosperity. Everything became clear to me at that moment. We are in the presence of a good fox. One that will grant us great wealth and prosperity. On behalf of my son and I, I'd like to deeply thank you for that. I don't know what we did to warrant Inari's blessing from our messenger friend, Tsukiko Kitsune, but we are deeply appreciative." Wilfred walks forward toward a shrine with a stone fox at the alter. "As such, we are here to show our appreciation."
"Thank you, Inari," Bryce says. "With your help the future will be... ALBRIGHT!"
End.
